Arches Type 3 Specialty Orthotics
For Inner Knee Arthritis

Get science backed correction, relief, comfort and performance. FootScientific’s Type 3 Arches® Orthotics are specifically designed to relieve pain from arthritis at the inner knee, osteoarthritis, high arch, supination, and grinding knee pain.

Relieve Foot & Inner Knee Arthritis Pain

  • Developed over a 12 year period and scientifically backed, the Type 3 Arches® Orthotics are specially designed to open the joint of the inner knee and relieve pain from inner knee arthritis (approximately 90% of all knee osteoarthritis), high arch, supination, and grinding knee pain. It’s patented design includes a “lateral post” – or wedge – across its entire length and a drop in the ball of the big toe – effectively changing the angle of the foot’s contact with the ground – and opening the pressure on the inner knee! (See the left leg before and after to the right)
  • An advantage of our Type 3 for those with a high arch is that it is desgined to help relieve foot and ankle symptoms from the supinating foot ("cavovarus foot"). These symptoms include plantar fasciitis, outer foot stress and tenderness, and ankle sprains and rolling."

Understanding and Managing Inner Knee Arthritis

  • Your knee has two wedge shaped pieces of cartilage called meniscus. Meniscus are tough, rubbery and lubricated and both keep your knee stable and act as “shock absorbers” as you walk, run, and jump.
  • One meniscus is lateral (on the outside of the knee) the other is medial (on the inside of the knee).
  • Over time the meniscus wears thin and your femur (thigh bone) and your tibia (shin bone) come ever closer to direct contact.
  • As this occurs at the medial meniscus, you will begin to experience pain on the inside of your knee.
  • The pain can be associated with stiffness, swelling and also initial pain as you move after stillness.
  • Cartilage damage is currently irreversible, however there are nonsurgical and surgical treatments that can help reduce pain and increase joint flexibility.
  • Releasing some of the pressure between your thigh and shin bone will relieve pain as well as provide more “wear time" for your cartilage.
  • FootScientific’s Type 3 arch has a lateral (outer) wedge radiating the mechanical advantage of releasing pressure from the medial (inner) knee.
  • As this occurs, you will find some relief from pain and gain more joint flexibility.
